Breaking bad eating habits
Many of us have ingrained patterns in our diet. Some are excellent, while others fall short. It’s never too late to change your eating habits, even if you’ve been following the same ones for a while.
Making sudden, radical changes, such as eating as little as possible, can lead to short-term weight loss. However, such radical changes are neither healthy nor a good idea and won’t be successful in the long run. Permanently improving your eating habits requires a thoughtful approach in which you reflect, replace, and reinforce.
MINDLESS EATING
Continuing to eat even though you know you’re full? Struggling to put down the snacks while watching TV?
POTENTIAL FIX
Try eating from smaller dishes. Swap out a dinner plate for a salad plate.
Switch calorie-dense snacks for nutrient-dense alternatives
NIGHT TIME MUNCHING
Find yourself heading for the fridge well into the evening? Eating up to bedtime can significantly impair weight loss as we tend to reach for more calorie-dense snacks.
POTENTIAL FIX
After dinner, teach yourself to think of the kitchen as being closed for the night and brush your teeth ready for bed.
SKIPPING BREAKFAST
Find yourself rushing in the morning and grabbing poor choices?
POTENTIAL FIX
Have ready healthy breakfast foods you can consume on the run such as whole fruit, yoghurt, homemade cereal bars, and smoothies or if you’re not naturally hungry in the am, feel free to wait a few hours before eating.
